Moxa Season and Your Yang Qi

Every year there are windows where the Ming Men, or the Gateway to the Kidneys, is wide open. Think of it as a golden opportunity to restore some of that metabolic fire that gets drained as we age and endure the stressors of life.
These periods fall during the seasonal transitions between Winter to Spring and Fall to Winter. There is also a summer treatment called San Fu that takes advantage of peak Summer Yang energy to help fortify us for the following Winter.
When and What is Moxa Season?

Specific dates for Moxa Season are based around the Lunar Calendar and treatment during this time is thought to be more potent than outside these windows.
For 2026 in the Northern Hemisphere the Winter to Spring transition Moxa dates are February 10th through March 11, roughly a week before the Lunar New Year and for three weeks after.
Since this coming year is that of The Fire Horse supplementing ones Yang Qi feels especially powerful, I think we are all ready for big changes and need energy to saddle up and ride.
During this time the body is especially receptive to the deep, warming, and tonifying effects of Moxa therapy. It is thought to penetrate more deeply into the body when the Ming Men is open, which builds and tonifies your energy storage levels.
Moxa and activating Yang Qi is especially useful to build strength and deep resilience, particularly for people recovering from burnout, exhaustion, chronic illness, or cold conditions.
What Does The Treatment Look Like?
During a session a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner will either burn the dried Ai Ye (Mugwort) close to the skin, apply a paste, or an herbal heat pack to points on specific meridians to support Yang energy production.

Common areas of focus are on Stomach, Spleen, Lung and Kidney points. Also on larger areas such as the lower back for deep kidney support and below the naval to warm the kidneys, the uterus in women and the digestive center.
This treatment is different to herbs or acupuncture—Moxa introduces a unique, nurturing heat that builds your Yang Qi.
Offerings During This Window
This medicine flows with the cycles of nature so tuning into this seasonal rhythm can be a game changer for long term wellness.
